There are several mechanisms that lead to individual differences in resilience, such as life exposures and genetic factors. The Reserve and Resilience Workshop will gather in Bethesda, Maryland on October 31 to November 1, 2021 to brainstorm these concepts and develop operational definitions that will guide future research.

Da Yeoun Moon, also known as Hanna, is a curious, captivating, cognitive neuroscience graduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas. She grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles after immigrating to America from Korea with her family when she was 10-years-old. Now she’s tackling research on the aging brain.
Researchers at The University of Texas at Dallas believe that determining the capability of individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to assess accurately their own cognitive function may help improve diagnosis of that condition — which often precedes an Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis — as well as potentially help better identify those at risk for dementia later.

Postdoctoral fellows, Dr. Chris Foster and Dr. Christina Webb, along with Dr. Rodrigue and Dr. Kennedy, traveled to Miami in January for the 2020 Human Amyloid Imaging (HAI) conference. Dr. Foster presented work demonstrating the negative influence of both brain iron and beta-amyloid on entorhinal cortex volume in healthy older adults. This work has since been accepted for publication in the journal Neurology (hyperlink paper when available).

Chris gave a nanosymposium talk on the structural properties of the hippocampus and their role in supporting episodic memory across the lifespan (since published in the journal Hippocampus, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/hipo.23133).
